Japanese Maki-e lacquer panel featuring three carp, concentrations of gilt particles lending to the illusion that they are swimming in a pond. Signed with Japanese characters lower left. Japanese label en verso. Float mounted in a wooden frame with gilt rabbet edge and off white fabric matte. Panel – 9 1/2" H x 18" W. Framed – 14 3/8" H x 26 1/4" W. Showa period, mid 20th century. Provenance: the estate of Dr. Sidney Fleisher, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Overall excellent condition. Inconspicuous 2 1/2" area of dampstaining, lower left corner. 1" area of loose threads, lower right of matte.
