Chinese carved brush holder or bitong. Very dense dark hardwood, carved with a scene of figures in a boat, surrounded by bamboo and prunus trees, fret carved bands at upper and lower rims. 5 1/4" H. Probably late 19th to early 20th century. Provenance: The estate of Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Overall excellent condition with some minor wear to underside.
