1st item: George III Regency Sarcophagus form mahogany tea caddy, hinged top opens to reveal two hinged side compartments for tea and a central fabric lined compartment fitted for a glass bowl no longer present, having four lobed bun feet, two shell handles, and a round mother of pearl escutcheon. 9" H x 14" W x 8 1/4" D. English, early 19th Century. 2nd item: Gilt lacquer chinoiserie sewing box, bombe form, the lid with figural landscape and foliate surround; landscape and foliate sprays to front of body and brass cornucopia loop handles on brass bun feet. Hinged lid with locking mechanism and interior fabric lining opens to blue-painted interior with removable, fitted tray, two red satin pincushions and two needle tray sections with gilt lacquer decorated lids. 5 3/4" H x 11 3/8" W x 8 3/4" D. Mid to late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Some fine cracking to veneer surface top and front. Some fading to one side. Natural wood shrinkage visible on interior of lid and area of top. 2nd item: Craquelure and minor surface wear throughout. Scattered areas of loss to lacquer, primarily to edges. Wear to red satin compartments. Scattered losses to interior blue paint, largest measuring 1/2" x 5/8". Key not retained.
