Civil War era Ames U.S. Model 1849 Rifleman's Knife with Original Leather Scabbard. Slab-sided walnut grips secured to the tang by three steel rivets, cast brass cross guard, spear point blade. Ricasso marked "US WD." property mark, obverse, "AMES MFG. CO./CABOTVILLE/1849" reverse. Hand carved initials on side of handle, "KI". Original black leather scabbard with brass throat and tip. Blade length – 11 7/8". Overall length – 18". CONDITION: Areas of pitting, rust, nicks to edge of blade. Scabbard broken into 2 pieces. Handle with glued break. Brass washer insert for handle is not present.
