William Beattie Brown (United Kingdom/ Scotland,1831 – 1909) oil on board landscape depicting the river Earn in Perthshire, Scotland. Label en verso reads "On the Earn near Comrie, Perthshire, W Beattie Brown". Signed lower left "W. Beattie Brown/ARSA". Housed in the original gilt wood frame with the original maker's label reading "Ciceri & Co. , Carvers:Gilders, 52 Frederick Street, Edinburgh". Sight – 7 5/8" H x 11 3/4" W. Framed – 15 3/4" H x 19 3/4" W. Late 19th century. Biography: (Courtesy of AskArt: The Artists' Bluebook) Born in Haddington, Scotland, Brown studied in Edinburgh with James Ballantine, the glass stainer and decorator. Between 1863 and 1899, he exhibited at the Royal Academy, New Watercolor Society, and other organizations in London. Brown was elected an associate member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1871, and became a full member in 1884. Condition: Some rubbing/losses to upper right margin and corner. Losses/rubbing to corners of frame.
