Signed V.__ Cortes lower right (and en verso) and dated illegibly lower right. Housed in a molded gilt frame with an acanthus leaf carved fillet. Sight – 23 1/2" H x 21 1/2" W. Framed – 31 5/8" H x 29 5/8" W. Likely second half of the 19th century. Provenance: Private Middle Tennessee collection. CONDITION: Heavy craquelure and signature partially obscured. Small holes at 3 corners with losses and/or inpainting, each approximately 1/4"dia. Areas of inpainting: 1 1/2" H. to left of Mary's halo; 1" W top right; 2"H area bottom left edge; and 2 1/2"W below Mary's arm. Small 1/4" loss top of Mary's hood.
