Maurice Grun (France, 1869-1947) oil on canvas nighttime landscape scene titled "Cour de Ferme, effet de lune (Farmyard, Moon Effect)" or "Clair de Lune (Moonlight)". The painting is rendered in light impasto and depicts the whitewashed facade of a barn crisply illuminated in the implied moonlight, facing a wagon and a small lit window in the home across the farmyard. Signed "M. Grun" lower right. Two handwritten labels, including one with "no. 2", additional signature, "6 Rue Pigache St. Cloud", and title; and one with "no. 2", artist, alternate title, and numbering, en verso of stretcher. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with anthemion center ornaments, shell flourish corners, and foliate motif throughout. Sight: 20 1/2" H x 25" W. Framed: 27 3/8" H x 31 7/8" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee, purchased from Rachel Davis Auctions, Oct. 20, 2018 lot 0011.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Frame with minor scattered losses and hairline to lower left corner measuring 3 3/4" L.
