Gary Hargis (Kentucky, 20th century) mixed media folk/outsider art political sculpture titled "The New Congress", depicting two red, white, and blue acrylic-painted branch figures battling each other; one standing with twig arms raised and painted primarily in red and wearing a white hat with "Republic" painted on brim, and other crouching, painted primarily in blue and wearing a red hat with "Democracy" painted on brim. Mounted to pine base painted white with scattered red glitter, titled, dated and signed on side "The New Congress, Hargis, 1995". Base – 1 3/4" H x 16 7/8" W x 7" D. Overall – 31 1/2" H x 24" W x 18 1/2" D. American, late 20th century. Provenance: Private Nashville, TN collection. CONDITION: Overall very good condition with minor surface grime.
