Olive Beem (American, Indiana, 1893 – 1989) oil on canvas landscape of a clearing in the woods in Springtime. Signed lower left "Olive Beem". Written in black marker en verso 'Jane to keep until Kinny finds a home, May 12, 1969". Very good condition except for some flaking on the top right corner. The color underneath the flaking suggests that it may have been painted over something else. Giltwood molded frame, likely original, good condition. Sight: 23-1/2" H x27-1/2" W; framed: 27-3/4" H x 31-3/4" W. Biography (Courtesy of AskArt): Born in Mitchell, Indiana, Beem studied in the fine arts classes of Robert Burke and Harry Engel at Indiana University, and with Carl Graf in Nashville,Indiana. She was a member of the Indian Artists Club, The Palette Club, and the Art Association of Bloomington. She exhibited at the Hoosier Salon and galleries throughout Indiana. She is known for her superb use of color and skills withcomposition.
