Middle Tennessee (Smith County) blanket chest, poplar throughout with the original black paint. Comprised of top with cleated, molded lid, deep rectangular case above curved bracket feet. Underside of top with mutiple faint pencil inscriptions including possible signature or owner name J/G P W____er along with the dates August 1912 and January 1830. 31" H x 39 1/2" W x 23" D. Second quarter of the 19th century. Provenance: Private Southeast Tennessee collection. CONDITION: Overall general wear and some losses to paint on top, primarily to the perimeter; water streaks to sides.
