Victor Milton Corden (United Kingdom, 1860-1939) oil on canvas painting, depicting an elderly British officer watching over a young boy dressed in a Queen's Guard uniform, saluting, and a young girl in a white dress, holding a cockatoo; all are positioned at the gateway of a large house with autumn foliage, and a maid or nanny watches from a window above. Signed "V. Corden" lower left. Housed in a decoratively carved giltwood frame. Sight – 20 3/4" H x 11 1/2" W. Framed – 27" H x 17 1/2" W. Late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: Nashville, TN estate. CONDITION: Overall good condition with craquelure concentrated in the lower right quadrant. Canvas has been relined. 1/2" x 1/2" area of loss to paint to one of the trees, top left. Few areas of loss to gilt on frame. Canvas slightly loose in frame.
