Two (2) Southern Folk Art Paintings. 1st item: Attributed to Kentucky, watercolor on paper landscape painting of a man crossing a river on a ferry with his wagon and two horses. Scene is likely the Valley View ferry in the Fayette/Madison County, Kentucky area. Signed "Duncan" lower right. 18" x 10 1/3", unframed. Circa 1915. Ex-Tommy Sapp, Campbellsville, KY, acquired from a private Madison County, KY estate 1985. The Duncans were a prominent pioneer family in Madison County with several branches still present in the early 20th century. 2nd item: Southern folk art painting of a black man standing beside a bare tree between two cabins, set on a small hill. Signed "B. Shepherd" and dated "Sep. 15, '64" lower right. Narrow wood frame. 17 1/2" x 23" sight, 19" x 24 3/4" framed. CONDITION: 1st item: Toning throughout, minor foxing upper edge. 2nd item: Some yellowing to clouds, painting does not fit well in frame, overall good condition.
