Jacobus Leisten (German, 1844-1918) oil on board painting depicting Prussian officers on horseback, galloping down a dusty road with other mounted soldiers following in the background. Signed lower left and stamped "J. Leisten" en verso. Housed in a later gilt wood frame with carved corner elements. Sight – 17" H x 11" W. Framed – 19 3/4" H x 13 3/4" W. European, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: Private Southern collection of Military Art. Note: Jacobus Leisten was a historical and genre scene painter. He studied with Wilhelm Sohn in Dsseldorf and at the Munich Academy from 1868 to 1873. CONDITION: Light craquelure, particularly to upper half; 1/4" flake upper right quadrant, sky area; 1" scratch lower center, a couple of scattered miniscule spots of flaking.
