Samuel Houston (1793-1863) signed Tennessee land document, granting Robert Houston, assignee of Archibald G. Powell "fifteen acres by survey bearing date the 17th day of August 1825. Lying in the Ninth District in McNairy County on the waters of Cypre[s]s Creek…" dated July 26, 1828. 15 1/4" H x 12 5/8" W. Note: Sam Houston's term as Tennessee governor lasted from 1827 until 1829, when he resigned and moved to Texas. Houston later became the President of Texas and its Governor. He is the only person in American History to be elected governor of two states by popular vote. CONDITION: Overall good condition with tears along fold lines, largest 2 5/8", foxing spots, dampstaining to be expected from age. Houston signature slightly affected by dampstaining, otherwise in strong clear condition.
