Collection of twelve (12) portrait miniature items, including some signed examples. 1st item: Signed miniature bust length oval watercolor on wafer portrait of a middle-aged gentleman in dark blue or black coat with greying hair and beard, against an olive background. Signed lower right "M. _ Bon___" and dated 1883 or 1888. Housed and matted in a giltwood frame. Sight: 4" H x 3 1/4" W. Framed: 6 1/4" H x 5 1/4" W. 2nd item: Leatherbound 12 mos German book titled KURZERE GEBETE FUR ZWOLF WOCHEN, Stuttgart, 1862, having cover inset with a hand-painted porcelain plaque of a child. Covered with paper having German text, en verso. Book: 7" H x 4 3/4" W x 1 3/4" D. Plaque: 4 5/8" H x 3 1/2" W. 3rd-12th items: Ten (10) miniature portrait items, most on wafer, including one (1) oval portrait of a military officer, signed JP; one (1) oval portrait of a very young child in Renaissance style dress; one (1) rectangular portrait of a woman in 18th-century clothing playing a musical instrument, identified by script en verso as Lady Isabella Hunt and signed "V Hall"; one (1) rectangular portrait of a woman in 18th-century style dress and hat, signed "Leroy"; one (1) oval portrait of a woman in 18th-century style dress, signed "Hi–", in rectangular frame; one (1) oval portrait of a woman with harp, in velvet frame; one (1) oval portrait of a woman with white dress and veil, in an elaborate pierced Rococo style giltwood frame; two (2) boxes with female portraits; and one (1) lacquer cigar case with portrait of a woman. Sights (oval) ranging in size from 2 7/8" H x 2 1/4" W to 3 1/2" H x 2 5/8" W. Frames ranging from 3 1/4" H x 2 1/2" W to 9" H x 6 3/8" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Wafer is mounted to a paper backing. Discoloration to both left and right edges, extending up to 1/2" into the background. One tiny spot of discoloration to background on right side about halfway between subject's mouth area and edge of painting. 2nd item: Wear and cracking to leather book covers, portrait plaque in very good condition except for some wear to perimeter. 3rd-12th items: Portrait of military officer and the portrait on the lid of the oval burlwood box have some small areas of exfoliation and accretions, other portraits in overall very good condition. Rococo style giltwood frame with minor scattered wear and repaired break to left edge.
