Two (2) miniature portraits after Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun and Pietro Perugino. 1st item: After Pietro Perugino, detail of The Madonna Worshipping the Christ Child; miniature rectangular watercolor on wafer portrait depicting the Virgin Mary, half length, with halo and gilt highlights to her red and blue robes, in an Italian style landscape setting. Paper backing (adhered at one corner) inscribed "Madonna Pergino – Galleria Pitti / Georgina Pincherelli / Via Maggio 43 Firenze". Housed in a plain gilt edged frame with hanger mounted in a larger gilt and carved giltwood frame with velvet mat. Sight: 2 3/8" H x 2 7/8" W. Framed: 6" H x 5 1/2" W. 2nd item; Miniature watercolor on wafer oval painting after the self portrait by Elisabeth Louise Vigee-Lebrun (French,1755-1842), depicting the artist in a dark dress with white lace ruffled collar and bonnet against a green-gray background. Unsigned. Wafer has been mounted to a paper backing and set in a later giltwood Rococo style frame. Sight: 3" H x 2 1/2" W. Framed: 8 1/2" H x 7" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: A few tiny inclusions and trapped hairs under glass, overall excellent condition. Gap between wafer and frame. 2nd item: Full split to right quarter of painting, near full split to left quarter, and a 3/4" split upper right edge. All splits affect the sitter's bonnet and/or collar, not the face. Some abrasions and recessed line (possible old repair) to upper left edge, with a thin matte streak continuing down the edge of the right side. The Wafer has been examined out of frame. It is mounted to a paper backing except for the part that has become separated, and no additional information is visible. A few scattered miniscule spots and inclusions.
