Roy Henry Brown (American, 1879-1956), two small oil on board impressionist landscape paintings in giltwood molded frames. 1st item: Painting of a white house and other buildings beside a pier, reflected in the water below. Signed lower right, “To The Squires from Roy Brown”. Sight: 7 1/2 in. H x 9 1/2 in. W. Frame: 13 1/2 in. H x 15 1/2 in. W. 2nd item: Painting depicting three rowboats beached along a coastline under a gray sky, with inscription lower right, “To the Coltons”. Unsigned. Sight: 7 in. H x 9 in. W. Frame: 13 in. H x 15 1/2 in. W.
PROVENANCE:
By descent in the family of Walter Squire, New York, to present Middle Tennessee collection. Squire was a music composer and art collector who befriended several artists during his time living in Europe 1908-1911, including Roy Brown.
CONDITION:
1st item: a few minor inclusions upper right and lower right corners, otherwise very good condition. Few spots of wear to frame. 2nd item: Wear along right edge, 1/2 in. narrow flake to center left edge. Antique frame with several spots of wear and losses to gilding.
