George II style secretary and bookcase, two part construction, burl walnut veneers on oak and pine secondary woods, molded opposing scroll pediment over two mirrored doors opening to a fitted interior with three fixed shelves over three small horizontal drawers. Drop-front hinged lid opening to reveal fitted interior with divisions for letters, 6 drawers, compartment and writing surface, over three horizontal drawers; base with bracket feet. All with conforming burl veneers. Brass Chippendale style hardware. Museum accession number to back. 89 1/2" H x 42" W x 22 1/4" D. English, 18th and 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned from the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
CONDITION: Top likely made later and added to the base. Cracks and minor separations to case. Repairs and restorations to veneers. Restoration and repair to drawer supports and drawer sides. Bracket feet appear to be late 19th/early 20th century replacements.
