James Matthews (British, 19th century) watercolor and gouache on paper painting titled "English Countryside" depicting a farm house in a pastoral autumn setting, a mother and her daughter feeding chickens in a country road before the house. Signed lower left. Paper label reading "For Olive" en verso. Housed under glass in a gilt wood frame with a gilt wood rabbet edge. Sight – 8" H x 13 7/8" W. Framed – 14" H x 19 3/4" W. Note: This painting was included on a receipt from Wiscasset Bay Gallery, Wiscasset, Maine, dated November 3, 2000, available to the winning bidder. CONDITION: Overall good condition. Not examined outside of frame. Areas of loss to gilt on frame, areas of mold/moisture damage, 1" hairline, to rabbet edge.
