Four (4) English books, including William Reeves, Staunton's Shakespeare. 1st item: LOOKING BACKWARD 2000-1887, Twenty-First Edition, by Edward Bellamy, published by William Reeves, London, no date. Hardcover 12mo, 249 marble-edged pages with watercolor double fore-edge paintings, one side depicting Windsor Castle and one side depicting Hampton Court, hardbound in brown leather with a blind stamped crest to the front cover, gilt lettering and blind stamping to spine, five raised hubs, marbled edge papers. 7 1/4" H x 5" W x 1" D. 2nd-4th items: THE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE, Vol. I-III, edited by Howard Staunton, illustrations by John Gilbert and engraved by The Brothers Dalziel, published by Routledge, Warne, and Routledge, London, 1862. Hardcover octavos, 2,333 total marble-edged pages with engraved illustrations including a frontispiece with tissue paper guard, hardbound in brown leather with gilt lettering and blind stamping to spines, five raised hubs, marbled end papers. Approximately 10 3/8" H x 7 1/2" W x 2 1/8" D.
CONDITION: 1st item: Covers are separated from spine, spine with areas of loss, largest 1 1/2" x 3/4" W. Pages in overall good condition with toning. Fore-edge paintings in overall good condition. 2nd-4th items: Cover in overall good condition with shelf wear, areas of rubbing/abrasions to leather, largest 10 1/4", 6" area of separation to front cover of Vol. II from spine, corners bumped. Areas of foxing, toning, and creasing, primarily to first and last few pages of each volume, majority of pages in overall good, legible condition.
