Don Miles, (American, 1912-1990) oil on masonite, panaoramic view of Grand Canyon, signed lower right, gold composition frame with linen liner. Frame: 38-1/2" H x 48-1/2" W, Sight: 29-3/8" H x 39-3/8" W. Biography (courtesy of AskART): Miles began painting in Long Beach, California in 1932 after attending a meeting of artists who formed the Spectrum Club. He studied locally with Sam Hyde Harris and Henry L. Richter. Working in oil and watercolor, he produced harbor scenes with boats and desert landscapes. In the 1980s he taught art to advanced students in the Palm Springs area and was a resident of Pasadena until his death. Member: Businessmen's Art Inst. of LA (pres. 1970); AAPL; Artists of the SW; Desert Art Center; San Gabriel FA Club; Pasadena AA. Exh: Calif. Art Club, 1932; AAPL, 1978 (1st prize).
