East Tennessee cherry tall case clock, yellow pine secondary. The case appears to be a vernacular interpretation of a Late Federal or Early Classical form. Consisting of a broken arch pediment with converging carved ribbed lobes and urn form finials, arched hood door flanked by free-standing turned columns and upper carved diverging ribbed lobe spandrels; paneled top sides with similar carved spandrels, engraved brass clock face with hour and minute hands, seconds dial, and date dial. Arched trunk door flanked by reeded stiles; cove molded base with carved paw feet. Hand written note attached to the interior states that the clock descended from the Kern's Bakery family. Circa 1830. 102" H x 26 1/2" W x 16 1/2" D.
PROVENANCE: A Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition, case has been refinished, some old insect damage to back panel. Works are early 20th century replacements.
