Two early Cherokee rivercane baskets and 1937 photo of Cherokee woman. 1st item: Cherokee river cane single woven shopping basket with diamond and cross design with bentwood handle and walnut and bloodroot dyed cane. 20-1/2" H, 7" W, 16-5/8" L. Early 20th century. 2nd item: small Cherokee river cane single woven basket with walnut dyed geometric diamond pattern, oak handle. 7-5/8" H x 6-1/2" W. Early 20th century. 3rd item: Early 20th century photographic print of Cherokee woman standing on the porch of a store with hanging river cane baskets. Inscription on back, "Jaquette Postmistress – runs the basketry shop at the Cherokee Reservation Sept 1937". 4-1/2" x 3", creased at upper right corner. Provenance: Descendants of the estate of Madge Hardin Walters, early 20th century collector and dealer of Native American and author of Early Days and Indian Ways, Westernlore Press, 1956. Condition: 1st item: overall excellent condition. No visible breaks. 2nd item: overall excellent condition, tiny break to half of cane at one basket corner.
