Frederick Ferdinand Schafer (California/Germany, 1839-1927) oil on canvas landscape painting depicting a woman and child walking hand-in-hand down a path bathed in afternoon sunlight; the path is flanked by patches of trees and boulders, with mountains in the background, under a partly cloudy sky. Signed "F. Schafer." lower left corner. Housed in a Rococo-style frame with shell flourish ornamentation and corners. Sight: 7" H x 11 1/4" W. Framed: 14 3/4' H x 19" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Peggy Lambert, Maryville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Scattered craquelure throughout; light scattered areas of errant white paint at lower corners and lower edge; discoloration to edges from frame; minute loss to paint layer lower right corner measuring 1/4". Frame with minor scattered losses, largest measuring 1/4" x 1".
