Civil War 1862 presentation sword. W. Clauberg, Solingen Germany Model 1840 "wrist breaker" cavalry sword with iron scabbard. Steel blade, bronze pierced guard including the letters "US" and sharkskin wrap with twisted brass wire. Blade stamped "80" on handle. Scabbard with two rings with presentation inscription reading "Presented to Lieut. G H North by the friends of his boyhood Sept. 4th, 1862". Blade length – 31 1/2". Overall length with scabbard – 40". Mid 19th century. CONDITION: Scattered areas of oxidation to the blade, a few nicks and tip of blade slightly bent. Upper area of brass wire wrap to handle missing, scabbard brass mounts cleaned.
