Victorian creamware dessert set decorated with animal vignettes. Set includes cake stand and eight (8) plates with scalloped rim and transferware pink decorated design with trefoil, swag, piecrust, dot and circle patterns, each center with an animal bust including donkeys, chestnut horses, cats, and dog or lion wearing eyeglasses. No maker's mark; each with handpainted numbers "9178X" on base. Stand – 2 3/4" H x 9 3/8" dia. Plates – 9" dia. Likely English, mid-19th century. CONDITION: 1/2" L chip to edge base of cake platter. One horse plate with old repair to rim. One lion plate with hairline crack to rim. Overall light craquelure to glaze on all pieces, some pieces with darkening evident en verso, all with general use wear.
