Oval portrait of Fannie Hatch Wemyss of Mobile, Alabama, circa 1850, oil on photographic board, in original leather and wood folding daguerrotype case/frame. 5-1/2" x 4-1/2" sight, 9" x 8" case. Provenance: The estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Note: Fannie Hatch Wemyss was the first wife of Colonel James Wemyss of Alabama and later, Gallatin, Tennessee (his portrait and that of her younger sister Annie, who married Wemyss after Fannie's death, are also being sold in this auction). This portrait has been documented by the Tennessee Portrait Project, conducted by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee. Condition: Wear to velvet mat and to case, portrait in good condition.
