Four (4) Chinese export watercolor and gouache portraits, paper laid on card, after Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766). Titles include: 1) Yao Tribe Man – Yung-ning County 2) Yao Woman – Yung-ning County 3) Ya Woman II Ma Ping County and 4) Ya Tribe Man – Ma Ping County. Each with Chinese character description tag upper left corner. Figures are from the "Mottahedeh Album of Foreigners and Minority Peoples in China". Berry Hill Galleries, New York labels en verso of each. Housed in gilt wood frames with bamboo accents. Sight – 12" H x 9 1/4" W. Framed – 19 1/2" H x 16 1/4" W. All 2nd half 18th century. Provenance: The Living Estate of Rita Whittle, Maryville, TN. CONDITION: All overall good condition. Minor toning lines to perimeter where watercolor meets matte.
