19th Century Oil Landscape and Silhouette. 1st item: American Political silhouette lithograph of Nathaniel Potter Tallmadge, 1844, published by E. B. & E. C. Kellogg, Hartford, CT, from a drawing by William H. Brown included in the publication, Portrait Gallery of Distinguished American Citizens, housed in an eglomise glass and gilt frame. Sight – 15" H x 10 1/4" W. Framed – 20 1/2" H x 17" W. Note: Tallmadge was a New York Senator and Wisconsin Territory Governor. 2nd item: Manner of Sanford Robinson Gifford (Massachusetts/New York, 1823-1880) oil on canvas Hudson River Style landscape painting depicting a still river in a fall landscape with a mountain below a cloudy sky. Signed "S.R. Gifford" lower left. Housed in a carved gilt wood frame with egg and dart rabbet edge. Sight – 12 1/4" H x 10 1/8" W. Framed – 17 1/4" H x 15 1/4" W. Mid/late 19th century. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. CONDITION: 1st item: Minor toning to paper. Frame with some abrasions. 2nd item: Overall good condition. Area of inpainting in top left of sky evident by the 1 1/2" x 2 1/8" area of repair visible to back of canvas. Areas of loss to gilt on frame.
