Large Confederate XX D guard Bowie knife comprised of a one-piece wood grip, iron D Guard terminating in a tear drop pommel, 1" width iron ferrule with japanning, flat blade with half of blade having top edge beveled terminating in a spear point. Unmarked. Blade length – 19". Overall length – 23 3/4". Provenance: Descended from Hoover Family of South Bend, Indiana. CONDITION: Overall dark patina with areas of pitting, edge nicks from 5 3/4" of blade edge to spear point.
