Twelve (12) decorative Asian items. 1st item: One (1) light blue tablecloth with white embroidery depicting two large dragons and two sun designs with geometric lace designs at the center and borders. Approximately 53" H x 54" W. Probably 19th century. 2nd item: One (1) pair of silk satin Chinese Lotus or feet-binding shoes embroidered with floral designs and two loops on either side for ties on curved painted wooden platform soles with leather toes and heel tips. Both approximately 4 1/2" H x 6 1/4" W x 3" D. 1880. 3rd item: One (1) black wooden tray with Tibetan embroidery with green, blue, pink and white floral designs encased in glass with black brass handles on each end. Sticker label "E. G. Gagg The Picture Framery Knoxville, Tenn." and museum accession number, en verso. 2 1/4" H x 26 3/4" W x 12 1/8" D. 20th century. 4th item: One (1) wooden plaque with mother of pearl inlay depicting four figures, two large baskets, a duck, stylized clouds, rocks, and floral designs at the four corners framed by a raised lip with mother of pearl inlay diamonds and pierced scrollwork. 14 1/8" H x 18 1/8" W. 19th century. 5th & 6th items: Pair (2) of brass five branch candle holders with circular bases incised with leaf and scroll designs. 8 1/4" H x 8 1/4" W x 4" D. Early 20th century. 7th & 8th items: Pair (2) of green hardstone bookends depicting a bird, flower pot, and flowers carved in relief. 5" H x 4" W x 1 1/2" D. Early 20th century. 9th & 10th items: Two (2) circular wooden pedestals with pierced decoration, five S-curved legs, and lower banister ring. 4 3/4" H x 7 1/2" dia. Early 20th century. 11th item: One (1) circular wooden pedestal with pierced decoration, four legs, and decorative scroll-shaped handles. 3 3/ 4" H x 4 3/4" dia. Early 20th century. 12th item: One (1) fabric and paper calligraphy case with a pink striped cotton cloth cover with floral designs containing cut and folded paper compartments, two large, four medium, eight small and eight extra small, with floral and insect designs. Museum accession number, en verso. 13" H x 6 3/4" W closed; 13" H x 13 1/2" W open. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with spots of yellowing and minor areas of fraying. 2nd item: Age wear and discoloration, some damage to threading especially at top edges where foot is inserted, portions of wooden sole split, and slight lifting of lining to underside of one shoe. 3rd item: Overall good condition with surface grime and some discoloration to embroidery. 4th item: Minor shrinkage of wood in places; missing mother of pearl inlay pieces on one figure's feet, another figure's face, and an umbrella. 5th & 6th items: Overall very good condition with some tarnish and minor residue in holders. 7th & 8th items: Some surface scratches and missing portions of stone, largest measuring 1 /2" H x 3 /4" W, and small spots of discoloration. 9th & 10th items: Minor surface scratches and slight separations in some seams of wood; one piece missing lower bannister, and other lower banister detached but included. 11th item: Missing upper banister and repair seam to one leg. 12th item: Overall good condition with surface discoloration to cloth cover and paper with some tears and areas of loss, largest 1 1/8" H x 1/2" W.
