Malcah Zeldis (American, b. 1931) "Lincoln Inauguration," watercolor and gouache on paper folk art painting depicting Abraham Lincoln taking the Presidential Oath of Office with his hand on the Bible as a crowd of people watch, with the White House and American flag in the background. Signed lower left corner and dated '92. Titled en verso of sheet, in pencil. Label en verso for the Frank J. Miele Gallery, New York, where it was purchased in 1993. Matted and framed under glass in a natural plain wood frame. Sight – 11 1/2"H x 8 1/2" W. Frame – 17" x 13". Biography: "Born in the Bronx in 1931 and a longtime resident of Brooklyn and Manhattan, Malcah Zeldis engagingly taps into and captures the pulse of the urban landscape. Her scenes of everyday life and biblical and historical subjects are often laced with autobiographical elements. Audacious in her color palette, Zeldis's hues vibrate with rhythmic intensity."
