Early French Religious Textile, possibly a saddle cover, velvet with passimenterie style applied metallic thread damask and gilt metallic thread embroidery, braid and fringe, with paper faced religious figures including the Madonna and Christ Child. One side embroidered: “Charite de Rouge Perriers”. Late 18th or early 19th century. Approx. 70″ L x 26″ W (widest point). Condition: Wear to paper faces on figures; light scattered stains, fading and small holes to velvet and wear/fraying to embroidered decoration, light grime.
