Agent Marked Merwin and Bray Ballard Model 1861 Carbine, .44 rimfire caliber, serial number 17685, all visible serial numbers matching. Right side of breech marked "Ballard's Patent Nov. 5. 1861.", left side of breech marked "Merwin & Bray Agt's New York", top of breech marked "No 44.". Walnut stocks, round barrel, iron mounted, checkered hammer, ejector, standard sights. Barrel length – 22". Overall length – 37". Mid 19th century. Provenance: the collection of Benjamin Dysart, Brentwood, Tennessee. CONDITION: Action is very good. No finish on metal. Barrel with overall very light pepper pitting, dark patina. Butt stock fits poorly, 2 1/4" crack extending from right side of tang. Ejector works perfectly.
