Chinese table screen comprised of a rectangular hardstone plaque with applied flowering urn decoration. Decoration comprised of various hardstones including malachite, agate, tiger's eye, chalcedony, fire agate, rose quartz, moss agate, rock crystal, and coral, all on a rectangular green flourite base. Fitted with a carved and pierced footed hardwood stand. Plaque: 13" H x 10 1/8" W. Overall: 18 1/2" H x 11 3/8" W. Early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.

CONDITION: Plaque overall very good condition with minute fleabites to both upper corners, inconspicuous leaf tip loss lower right. Stand in overall good condition with light general wear.
