Continental School, possibly Eivind Nielsen (Norweigan, 1864-1939) oil on panel painting depicting a woman in black making her way across an open square. Cows and a woman with basket atop her head are visible behind her, with an expansive row of buildings in the background, and the ground below appears snow-covered. Signed illegibly lower right. Illegible stencil and "4" stamped en verso. Housed in a leaf carved giltwood frame, Sight – 12 3/4" x 8 3/4". Frame – 15 1/2" x 11 3/4". Circa 1875.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Areas of alligatoring to paint surface, light grime. Otherwise good condition.
