Continental School oil on board portrait of a gentleman, identified as Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor (1608-1657). Ferdinand III is depicted as a middle aged man in 17th century armor and partially draped in red fabric, seated before a brown background. "Fernando.III.Imperator" in faint gold lettering, below portrait. Housed in a wooden black and gilt wood Spanish style frame. Sight – 25 3/4" H x 20 3/4" W. Framed – 31 3/4" H x 26 3/4" W. 17th/18th century. CONDITION: Overall stable condition. Canvas has been relined. 3/8" loss top left corner. Significant fill and inpainting around all 4 edges and in center of sitter's collar (3"L) and chest (4"L) with scattered inpainting across canvas evident with black light.
