Large Chinese Qing dynasty bird and flower or huaniaohua painting on silk with a peacock that stands by a stream alongside flowering red, white, and pink peony blossoms. With calligraphic inscriptions and five red seals. Housed under glass in a rusticated giltwood frame with green textile liner. Sight: 51 in. H x 30 in. W. Framed: 61 1/2 in. H x 40 1/2 in. W. 19th century or earlier.
CONDITION: Darkening to silk and areas of repair and retouch throughout. Retouching is primarily to background and to lowest blossom, with peacock and other flowers in overall very good condition. Also with horizontal fold lines and waviness or wrinkling throughout. Not examined out of frame. Liner with areas of discoloration and frame with minor abrasions.
