U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle, .50 caliber, serial number 42218. Engraved "U S SPRINGFIELD" with image of eagle on lock plate. Inspector's marks light but visible on barrel. Walnut stock and forestock, Buffington rear sight, and hand made metal shield attached on left side of breach (purpose unknown). Barrel length – 31 1/4". Overall length – 51 1/4". Also included is a small caliber, diamond shaped bayonet, probably European. 23" L. CONDITION: Metal finish better than average, considerable blue showing. Bore is good. Mechanically sound. Missing cleaning rod and butt plate. 3" crack extending to front of lock plate to breach of barrel. Crack behind lock plate. Rust on bayonet.
