An important weekly magazine of the day containing news of America and the world concerning politics and economics, also reprints of public documents. Lot includes: Volume IV (4) March to September 1813, Volume V (5) September 1813 to March 1814, Volume IX (9) September 1815 to March 1816, Volume XI (11) September 1816 to March 1817, Volume XIII or Volume I of New Series (13) September 1817 to March 1818, Volume XVI or Volume IV of New Series (16) March 1819 to September 1819, Volume XVIII or Volume VI of New Series (18) March 1820 to September 1820, Volume XIX or Volume VII of New Series (19) September 1820 to March 1821. 2nd grouping: Four historical leatherbound books by Stanley, Whitehead, and Potter. 1st item: Through the Dark Continent or The Sources of the Nile around the Great Lakes of Equatorial Africa by Henry M. Stanley, containing maps of Africa and numerous engraved illustrations of fish, animals, tools, musical instruments and other items of African material culture. Published London by Sampson, Low, Marston etc. 1887 (6th edition). Tooled leather binding, bookplate and tooled leather name on front for All Saints School Bloxham (Cambridge Syndicate Examination Mid Summer 1889, awarded as prize to W.F. Chandler by The Governing Body). 2nd item: 1820 leatherbound copy of Whitehead's Poem on the Battle of Waterloo, by William Whitehead, published 1820 and printed by Thomas Davison, Whitefriars, for subscribers listed at the end of the book. Missing front free endpaper and half-title page. Extensive historical and biographical notes, rare. 3rd and 4th items: The Tragedies of Euripides in 2 volumes, translated by R. Potter. Printed for J. Mawman, C. Law and others, London, 1814. Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: 1st grouping: Wear and staining to covers, foxing and toning to interior pages. 2nd grouping: 1st item: 1 folding map of Africa torn, light wear and stain to lower right front cover. Otherwise very good condition. 2nd item: Wear and staining to covers, partial loss to title on spine, some foxing to interior pages. 3rd and 4th items: Wear and foxing to covers, part of title on spines missing, light discoloration and foxing to interior pages.
