French School, mid-19th century, pair of oil on panel paintings depicting harvesting putti. One group of cherubs is seen harvesting sheafs of wheat, the other holding large clusters of grapes. Possibly part of a Four Seasons series. One painting signed lower left, C. Brun (possibly after Charles Le Brun, 1616-1690, or Charles Guillaume Brun, 1825-1908). The other possibly signed lower right (repair makes it difficult to see). Partially legible 19th century French labels stenciled en verso. Both framed in ornate antique molded giltwood frames. 8-1/4" x 7" sight, 16" x 14" framed. Condition: Painting with wheat: 1/2" light abrasion at center cherub's lower left leg, losses to rabbet molding in lower right corner of frame. Painting with grapes: 1/4" repair lower left over possible signature. Losses to rabbet molding in corner of frame, upper right; scattered inclusions; loss to corner beading in upper right corner. Both frames exhibit some abrasions, scattered shrinkage cracks and small corner chips.
