Two (2) Japanese Meiji period tortoiseshell trays with raised gilt lacquer decoration featuring birds in a landscape, one (1) having Mt. Fuji in the background, and one (1) having inlaid mother of pearl details. Both have a leaf form with a scalloped rim, oval base, and small handle. Both are approximately 5 1/2" H x 9 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D. Late 19th/early 20th Century.
PROVENANCE: Private Williamson County, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some surface scratching and loss and scattered loss of lacquer decoration, especially in areas where base is attached. Base on one dish has been re-adhered. One dish with repaired crack to edge, approximately 2 1/2" L. Both handles have been repaired.
