19th century English lap desk and storage box. 1st item – English brass bound mahogany lap desk, interior with later green felt writing surface, pen tray and ink bottle well with a bank of drawers below well, dovetailed long drawer to exterior case. On central brass inlay to top, "John W. Paterson". 19" W x 11" D x 7 1/4" H, length opened 22". 1st half of 19th century. 2nd item – English rosewood brass bound storage box with serpentine skirt and bracket feet. Interior with a large central well and an upper perimeter bank of hinged compartments with beveled and incised panels. 21 5/8" W x 14 3/4" D x 9 1/4" H. 19th century. Provenance: Gatlinburg, TN collection. Condition: 1st item – brass inlay with name has loss, old abrasions and splits to case, felt writing surface replaced, missing board covering drawers below well, and other interior losses. 2nd item – top with an old split, interior pull missing on one hinged compartment.
