Hand embroidered block pattern quilt, Bird Life or The Audobon pattern, originally designed by Ruby Short McKim and published in 1928. Rendered with all cotton fabric in colors of yellow and off-white on a white ground with yellow border, with each bird block enhanced with hand embroidery and some crayon fill, quilted throughout. 74 1/2" H x 60" W. Circa 1930-40. Note: Ruby S. McKim was a nationally known quilt designer of the 1920s and 1930s.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, descended in the family of the artist.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with a few scattered areas of spotting and one area of staining to the upper right corner. Some areas on the lower margin appear as staining but are actually areas that are part of the original design that were not embroidered.
