Persian Qajar lacquered papier-mache painting depicting a royal hunting party. The central crowned figure slaughters a lion in a clearing, while another crowned figure takes aim at a large cat feasting on a deer. Other figures and hunting dogs attend the activity, and sparse trees, distant mountains, and a townscape appear in the background. Surrounded by a rose and lattice painted border. Unsigned. Framer's sticker labels, en verso. Housed under glass in a molded wooden frame with a gilt sight edge. Sight: 11 1/2" H x 18" W. Frame: 18 3/8" H x 24 7/8" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Overall discoloration and craquelure to varnish layer. Scattered losses to edges largest measuring 1/4" H x 1 3/8" W.
