American Crazy Quilt, dated 1884, hand pieced and hand quilted featuring multicolored embroidery visible on top, rendered in primarily solid colored silks, satins and velvets with a few stripes and plaids. The top features embroidered designs including flowers, a butterfly, multiple spider webs, a peace dove, a dancing couple, a star and the embroidered date 1884. The center is framed by a wide quilted dark red satin border with diamond quilting and backed with the same color satin, and has an applied gilt woven cord around the perimeter. 62" H x 63 1/4" W.

CONDITION: Quilt has been fitted with a rod pocket and hanger for display. Perimeter cord is detached in some areas. Scattered losses and shattering to fabrics throughout. Border fabric color is not uniform.
