Kentucky rifle marked Settle and percussion fowling piece. 1st item: Kentucky half stock long rifle, .40 caliber. Barrel stamped FELIX SETTLE 1857. Walnut stock, brass trigger guard and butt plate, metal frame and barrel. Set triggers. Buck horn rear sight and blade front sight. Lock plate stamped RIDDLE. Barrel length – 40". Overall – 56" L. 2nd item: Half stock percussion fowling piece, .69 caliber, unmarked. Walnut stock. Barrel length – 34 1/4" L. Overall length – 50 1/2". 19th century. Provenance: the estate of Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: 1st item: Barrel with rust/oxidation, especially near tip. Loss to wooden surrounds of lockplate, split in fore stock. 2nd item: Older brown patina to barrel. Abrasions to stock and barrel, wooden stock losses near barrel area. Cleaning rod and metal bands missing.
