Large Eastern Orthodox Christian icon painting, likely Russian or Greek, tempera and gilt on fabric laid to panel. The icon depicts three saints–likely the Three Holy Hierarchs Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom–below Christ as Salvator Mundi. With incised linework to background and border. 19th century or earlier. 14" H x 12 1/8" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Hunter Kay, Franklin, Tennessee.
CONDITION: With surface grime and scattered losses, especially to lower edge, plus craquelure and natural wood separation to panel.
