Grouping of sixteen (16) Brasstown, North Carolina wood carvings of assorted animals by various artists associated with the John C. Campbell Folk School located in Western North Carolina. Animal forms include cats, rabbits, one dog, one fox, one mouse and one figure of a female by Hope Brown. Carved in various woods including cherry, walnut and butternut. All but three with artists' initials. Identified artists include HB for Hope Brown and NL for Nell Lee. Ranging in size from 1 5/8" H x 1/2" W to 6" H x 2 5/8" W. All 2nd Half 20th century. History: The Brasstown Carvers began in 1929 when a local Handicraft Association was organized at the John C. Campbell Folk School. All work was made in the homes of members who lived around Brasstown.
CONDITION: All items in overall good condition. A few animals with minute wear to ears and very slight abrasions to body.
