M.T. Wetzlar, Munich, .800 silver centerpiece bowl, Art Deco oval form with lobed and hand-hammered sides, raised on a conforming foot. Stamped with German fineness marks to underside. 12 3/4 in. W x 10 in. D x 6 in. H. 34.36 oz troy. Note: The Jewish Wetzlar family of Munich had a renowned silverware store and workshop, founded in 1875. Their work was based on their own as well as artists’ designs. As Hitler rose to power, the Wetzlars were forced to abandon their business in 1938 and flee to London, escaping the Holocaust but losing their livelihood. From that point, the brothers Friedrich and Leonhard Kleemann carried on the shop and the workshop into the post-war era. Source: Florian Dering, “M.T.
